Operator of Illegal Streaming and Webtoon Sharing Sites Arrested

An operator of illegal streaming sites and webtoon sharing sites has been arrested and indicted for generating hundreds of billions in criminal profits. This individual reportedly used the illicit gains to lead a luxurious lifestyle, purchasing high-end foreign cars and Rolex watches.

According to the Copyright Crime Investigation Unit in the Republic of Korea, the operator established "Nunu TV" on overseas servers in 2021 and is accused of illegally streaming Korean content from domestic broadcasters and Netflix. Additionally, this individual also managed sites such as "TV Wiki" and the webtoon sharing site "OK Toon."

Investigations revealed that the operator earned at least 33 billion won in illegal profits through ads for illegal gambling and adult sites.

The individual was apprehended on September 9, following cooperation among the investigation unit, prosecutors, police, and the National Intelligence Service. The operator's lavish lifestyle was evidenced by possession of 20 billion won worth of Bitcoin, two high-end foreign cars including a Porsche, and luxury watches.

Currently, the investigation unit has seized the domains of all illegal sites managed by the operator and has blocked access. "Nunu TV" has previously been shut down twice for violations but had reemerged by relocating its servers and frequently changing its domains.
